Supermarkets

We need them. We often make way too many trips there, sometimes 3 or 4 times in one day. And we are tempted by some of the pre-packaged quick fixes staring at us right in our eye. We also tend to shop hungry, thus buying all sorts of items we do not need. I have ranked in that category many times.

One of my goals is to help all of us become more savvy shoppers and to re-learn culinary skills. Wouldn't it be fun to take a cooking class? Or maybe fun to learn quick easy recipes that can be made from the fresh foods you have purchased? Food tastes so much better when prepared from scratch.

I am lucky to have access to locally grown foods and there is a distinct difference in the taste of a vine ripened tomato to a tomato picked too early and shipped across the country.

Tips in shopping:
- try buying local or find the most local items in your supermarket
- try to buy organic, if possible
- learn to read labels
- avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup
- try to buy mostly fresh foods and non-white pastas

These are a few tips. You will find a lot more information on all of this in QNN's book which can be purchased from this website!
