"Only Robinson Crusoe had everything done by Friday."
Can you add yourself to the list of procrastinators? Do you invent clever little reasons to avoid doing a task? How about repeatedly going to the refrigerator, opening the door to see if anything new has arrived since the last visit 5 minutes earlier? Maybe the apple has suddenly changed into a chocolate bar! Maybe the dog needs to go outside again even though you just came in from a romp. Suddenly the bag of chips needs to be opened and most of it consumed before dong the "task."
I have found myself in the line-up of procrastinators. I mull a decision, then wonder if I have made the right one. Maybe the "task" will go away if I avoid it. It's not that I am lazy and don't want to do it but I find if it is something I consider boring (taxes, homework, accounting) the motivation to do it is not there. It is so easy to distract myself with something fun and telling myself that the fun thing will get me inspired to do the un-fun thing. And ironically it does! There is no cure really for procrastination so try to find a fun motivation to get the task you are avoiding done quickly to free you up from the self-sabotaging roller coaster of "I don't want to do this!" You will be able to avoid the feeling of self loathing for not getting things done or the sense of frustration that builds.
As Will Rogers said," Even though you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there."
